Safeway Grocery Delivery Launches in Colorado
The grocery delivery market is heating up here in Colorado. Safeway is now delivering groceries in the Denver metro area and you can have your order delivered in as little as one hour. They join King Soopers, Walmart and Instacart in offering delivery on fresh produce, meat and packaged foods, as well as household care items direct to consumer’s homes and businesses. To celebrate the launch, Safeway is offering free delivery plus $15 off the first order.
How does it work?
You have two choices for ordering groceries from Safeway. You can create an online grocery delivery account at Safeway.com and place your order online, or you can download the Safeway grocery delivery app and place your order using your mobile phone.
The mobile app even has a bar-code scanner that allows you to scan products in your kitchen to create your shopping list. Once you finish adding items to your cart, you can select your delivery window where you can choose from one-hour, two-hour or four-hour delivery times.
The rate for grocery delivery will vary based on mileage traveled and order size, and the average range will be between $7 – $17 per order, according to Safeway.
The pricing for groceries is the same as in-store prices for advertised sale items. Non-ad items prices vary from in-store pricing, but shoppers can take advantage of Safeway Just for U digital coupons for extra savings. Paper coupons cannot be combined with grocery delivery, however there are lots of promotions and special delivery only offers built in to the grocery delivery service, so there are plenty of savings opportunities available to maximize the delivery and take advantage of the convenience!
Here is an example of a few of the online offers available for grocery delivery customers:
I tried the grocery delivery last week and had a good experience. It took me 20 minutes to place my order online and while I did have to wait a little longer for my delivery than was scheduled, the driver called me and kept me up to date on the time he expected to arrive, so that was nice that I wasn’t left in the dark about my delivery. All in all it saved me an hour of shopping at the store with three kids in tow.
My next order will be much quicker since I can access my past order history and quickly modify it rather than create a new list each time.
Since this is a new service to Colorado, there is currently one store from which the grocery shopping takes place, so you may have to wait a little longer for your delivery to arrive than your scheduled window. According to Safeway, additional stores will be added by the end of the year.
